Question Pro Survey System
TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT | CURRENT INITIATIVE

The University of Texas at El Paso purchased the current survey software tool for UTEP in the spring of 2009 and made it available to all users who needed a survey tool for teaching and research. To help with adoption, Technology Support assigned a primary administrator for local support and training purposes. Over the years, the use of this tool has expanded and now embedded into other systems (i.e. Hobson’s Radius and Hannon Hill’s Content Management System) and departmental operating processes such as tracking customer traffic and satisfaction. Also, the current survey software tool for UTEP is a critical resource for the Center for Institutional Evaluation, Research and Planning at UTEP.

The annual renewal cost for the current survey software tool for UTEP has remained unchanged for almost a decade, but we now look at a drastic price increase of approximately 110% for our next renewal set for January 11, 2019. It appears that our current survey software provider under estimated their tool’s usage by academia and have realized their pricing model has to be updated to ensure sustainability.

This project consists of evaluating survey software products. While it is true that migrating into a new system will require time and effort from our users, there is a potential savings of approximately $130,000 during the first three years of transitioning to a new survey system. We understand that cost savings alone doesn’t make a product the best value for us; therefore, we have created a survey software evaluating committee (twenty two active members – mix of faculty, staff, and students). The committee has been given access to product demos and trial accounts to help with their assessment. Based on the committee’s assessment results, the university will ad opt a new survey software system that will be of best value for UTEP.
