UTIMCO Scholars for Summer: Hunt Business Students Gain Real-World Experience
What Happened: Six Hunt Business students were selected as UTIMCO Scholars for Summer 2025, joining a competitive cohort of over 50 students from across Texas.
The program is hosted by the University of Texas/Texas A&M Investment Management Company (UTIMCO), which manages $79 billion in assets for 22 institutions.
Why It Matters: Designed to expand access to careers in high finance, the UTIMCO Scholars program connects underrepresented students with industry leaders in asset management, private credit, and investment banking — offering insight into the people, culture, and expectations of the field.
Inside the Experience: The in-person kickoff took place at UTIMCO headquarters in Austin, Texas where students engaged industry professionals through panels, workshops, and networking opportunities.
Highlights included:
- “No Bull, Just Business” panel featuring leaders from Alliance Bernstein, Brevan Howard, and Tripost Capital
- “Authenticity in the Workplace” panel with representatives from Dimensional Fund Advisors and PIMCO
- Interview prep workshop led by BlackRock
- A live mock interview conducted by J.P. Morgan, featuring Hunt Business student Diego Torres
What they said:
“Hearing directly from people like Rich Hall and Todd Silverman helped me realize that the top of the industry isn’t some distant world, but they’re actually just people who put in the work.”
– Marla Chavez, Summer 2025 UTIMCO Scholar
“Doing the mock interview with J.P. Morgan in front of 50+ students was nerve-wracking, but it pushed me to rise to the moment. I walked away realizing that preparation and confidence can take you further than you think. Opportunities like this don’t come around often.”
– Diego Torres, Summer 2025 UTIMCO Scholar
“The in-person event showed me how powerful it is to be in a room full of like-minded people all chasing the same goal. It made me hungrier.”
– Diego Hernandez, Summer 2025 UTIMCO Scholar
