Four concentrations
Students enter the Ph.D. program through one of four concentrations, pairing discipline-specific scholarship with rigorous research methods and faculty mentorship.

The program is designed around the work graduates will be expected to do in an academic career: develop knowledge, teach it, and contribute to a scholarly community.
Doctoral coursework and faculty-guided projects build the theoretical and methodological foundation for independent scholarship and publication.
Students develop classroom experience under faculty mentorship and progress toward teaching responsibilities as they advance through the program.
Faculty mentorship helps students refine research interests, develop a scholarly agenda, and prepare for the dissertation and academic job market.
The doctoral path
The typical four-year path moves from concentrated study and research training into candidacy, dissertation work, teaching, and preparation for an academic career.
Complete doctoral coursework in the concentration, research methods, and supporting areas while developing research and teaching experience.
Demonstrate mastery of the field and advance from doctoral coursework toward candidacy.
Develop and defend an original dissertation while continuing to build experience as a university instructor and scholar.
Enter the academic job market with an emerging research agenda, university teaching experience, and faculty mentorship.
The Ph.D. in Business Administration requires 48 semester hours: 15 in the specialization area, 12 in research methods, 9 in a supporting area, and 12 dissertation hours. Additional foundation coursework may be required depending on prior academic preparation.

Subject to funding availability and academic performance, admitted students may receive research and teaching assistantships for up to four years, health insurance, and fellowship support covering in-state tuition.
Applicants select a concentration before submitting the Ph.D. application.
