Hunt Students Serve Up Campaigns for Wienerschnitzel
What happened:
Marketing students in MKTG 3320: Advertising and Sales Promotion built full-scale ad campaigns for Wienerschnitzel as part of a semester-long capstone project. Led by Professor Delfina Glenn, the class acted as competing agencies — researching, planning, and pitching to local franchise owners.
Why it matters:
The project offered students firsthand experience in client communication, campaign strategy, and media planning — all in a high-stakes, professional setting.
The challenge:
Each team had three goals:
- Work within a $50,000 budget
- Propose strategies to increase year-over-year sales by 10%
- Drive an 8% increase in customer traffic
Their audience: young adults and college students across El Paso.
How they approached it:
Students backed their ideas with data and focused on location-specific strategies, including:
- Geofenced social media and streaming TV ads
- Out-of-home placements like billboards
- A mural concept tied to one restaurant location
- Use of Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, and coupon tracking
What students said:
“The Wienerschnitzel project helped me strengthen the real-world skills I use every day.”
Maria Ortiz
“We created a full advertising plan and presented it to franchise owners — a glimpse into the professional world I won’t forget.”
Isabel Hernandez
