The University of Texas at El Paso Welcomes Dr. Jaeyoon Kim as New Civil Engineering Assistant Professor

Civil Engineering Welcomes Dr Jaeyoon Kim

 

The Department of Civil Engineering at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jaeyoon Kim, Ph.D., as its newest assistant professor. Kim, a distinguished researcher, and educator, will enhance the department with his extensive expertise, expanding its horizons in cutting-edge fields of study.

Kim’s research interests encompass a wide range of topics, including Digital Twin (DT) technology, Building Information Modeling, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, The Internet of Things, Virtual Reality, and Advanced Unmanned Aircraft Systems. His overarching goal is to promote resiliency and safety in future construction, infrastructure and built environment systems.

One of Kim's notable research endeavors focuses on data-driven decision-making for city planning and infrastructure management by integrating situational awareness with immersive DT and real-time crowdsourced sensing. Kim's work has garnered recognition and support from prestigious institutions such as the Texas Department of Transportation and the National Science Foundation. His dedicated research has also been rewarded with the Best Paper Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers Journal of Management in Engineering, a testament to the caliber of his research contributions.

Kim is not only committed to pushing the boundaries of knowledge but also to nurturing the next generation of civil engineers. “By establishing my research team, I aim to conduct interdisciplinary research in construction job sites and smart cities toward the Digital Twin El Paso. Furthermore, I will be involved in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the department. All along the way, I will continue to be committed to supporting students on both a long-term and short-term basis and will do everything in my power to ensure their success every step of the way,” Kim stated.
