College of Engineering Celebrates Spring 2023 Graduates with Hooding Ceremony and Order of the Engineer Induction

On May 13, 2023, the College of Engineering hosted its highly anticipated graduate hooding the Order of the Engineer ceremonies at the historic Magoffin Auditorium.

During the graduate hooding ceremony, over 100 talented students from diverse engineering disciplines were awarded their Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees, marking a significant milestone in their academic journey. The hooding ceremony, a culmination of years of hard work and dedication, provided a platform for the graduates to celebrate their accomplishments alongside faculty, family, and friends.

A highlight of the event was the hooding of the Ph.D. candidates. Dressed in their academic regalia, the candidates were individually recognized and hooded by their admired advisors, symbolizing their transition from students to scholars in their respective fields. This ceremonial act represents the passing of knowledge and signifies the graduates' readiness to contribute to the advancement of their chosen discipline.

Dr. Kenith Meissner, Dean of the College of Engineering, expressed his pride in the graduates' accomplishments and emphasized the significance of their contributions to society. He stated, "Today, we celebrate the hard work, determination, and passion that these graduates have displayed throughout their academic journey. UTEP has equip them with the knowledge and skills to address the complex challenges of our time and shape the future of engineering."

As the graduates crossed the stage, proud parents, faculty members, and friends captured the memorable moments with enthusiastic cheers, applauding the graduates' remarkable achievements.

Following the hooding ceremony, the Order of the Engineer ceremony took place, symbolizing the students' commitment to uphold ethical practices and serve society through their engineering expertise. With pride and determination, the students took an oath to prioritize integrity and the betterment of society.

The ceremony commenced with an inspiring keynote address by Emely Solem, a graduating senior in Civil Engineering. Solem shared her personal experiences and encouraged the graduates to continue pushing boundaries and making a positive impact on society through their engineering knowledge and skills.

More than 300 newly inducted engineers received a shiny steel ring, which serves as a constant reminder of their responsibility and commitment. The ring represents their dedication to ethical engineering practices and their mission to make a difference in the world.

The graduate hooding and Order of the Engineer ceremonies at College of Engineering represent UTEP’s commitment to excellence in education and the preparation of well-rounded engineering professionals. These graduates are now ready to embark on promising careers or follow further academic pursuits, poised to make significant contributions to their respective fields and society at large.

The College of Engineering congratulates the graduates on their achievements and wishes them success in their future endeavors.
