Engineering Department at UTEP Changes Name

The Department of Industrial Engineering at The University of Texas at El Paso has announced that it has changed its name to the Department of Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering, effective January 2010.

As the name implies, the newly named department will be the home of Industrial, Manufacturing and Systems Engineering programs.

“The new name of the department reflects the augmentation of its Manufacturing program with a proposed PhD program in Manufacturing and includes the Systems Engineering graduate programs,” said Dr. Ricardo Pineda, Department Chair. “This change allows us to better align our education and research with the services based economy and ever evolving multi-disciplinary nature of complex systems of the Enterprises in the 21st Century.”

The department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial, Manufacturing & Systems Engineering. Master’s programs are offered in Industrial, Manufacturing & Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Systems Engineering. The recently approved Graduate Certificate program in Systems Engineering will also be administered by the department.
