UTEP Civil Engineering Students Gain Leadership Skills and Network at ASCE Workshop for Student Chapter Leaders

Members of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) UTEP chapter, Emily Mata, Montsserrat Najera, Juan Lazcano, Antonio Rojero, Yoshio Komiyama, Maria Galindo, Vianney Luna and Abraham Mejia recently attended the ASCE Workshop for Student Chapter Leaders (WSCL), held in Denver, Colorado.

“Workshops like this provide unique opportunity for civil engineering students to gain valuable leadership skills and connect with professionals in their field. We are proud to offer our UTEP students these opportunities and prepare them for successful careers in the engineering industry,” said Carlos Ferregut, civil engineering department chair.

During the two-day event, UTEP students participated in a variety of sessions, including interactive workshops on communication, team building, and project management. They also had the opportunity to network with industry professionals and other ASCE student chapter members from across the country.

"The ASCE conference provided an exceptional educational opportunity for our team, and I'm grateful for the chance to bring seven ASCE officers from our UTEP Student Chapter”, mentioned Emily Mata, UTEP ASCE President. “Through networking with other student leaders from various ASCE chapters, we discussed common challenges and shared best practices to enhance our own student org. These experiences have improved my skills as a student and future engineer, and I'm confident that the knowledge and connections gained from this conference will serve me well as I approach my graduation in December 2023."

The ASCE WSCL is just one of the many opportunities available to UTEP students to advance their engineering skills and connect with other professionals in their field. With its highly regarded civil engineering program, UTEP’s College of Engineering has become known as one of the leading colleges in the nation, offering its students a well-rounded education that prepares them for successful careers in the field of engineering.
