Mechanical Engineering graduate students Jose Gabriel Davila Rangel and Angel Delgado from The University of Texas at El Paso were pronounced winners in the recent American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)/National Science Foundation Design Essay Competition 2009.
The joint essay on product realization of organ printing will be presented by Rangel and Delgado at the ASME conference in San Diego, California in late August. As competition winners, they will receive a joint award of $1,250 to attend the conference. They will also be presented with a certificate at the Design Engineering Division (DED) Honors and Awards Luncheon on September 1.
The ASME/NSF Design Essay Competition encourages students to think about the future of engineering design and intellectual foundations. Submissions are judged on scholarship, the depth and sophistication of arguments, presentation of material, and relevance to problems facing the US industrial/academic community.
