Dear Miners,
Happy New Year and welcome for the Spring semester 2023. Whether you are a new or a returning student, I am delighted that you have chosen to pursue your studies in engineering at UTEP.
As the dean of the College of Engineering, it is my pleasure to support and guide you as you embark on this exciting journey. As we start the new academic year, please take advantage of the many services and opportunities provided by the College of Engineering. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to providing you with a top-quality education, as well as the tools and resources you need to succeed. Don't hesitate to reach out to us if you need any assistance or have any questions.
One of the key opportunities available to you is the chance to get involved in research projects. Whether through independent study with a faculty member or by joining a research group, participating in research can be a great way for you to gain hands-on experience in your field and contribute to the advancement of knowledge.
In addition, our college has partnerships with companies, organizations and national labs that offer internships and co-op programs for students. These programs provide you with the opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills in a professional setting and can also lead to full-time job offers after graduation.
We also have a variety of student organizations on campus that cater to specific interests or majors. These organizations provide you with opportunities for leadership, networking, and professional development. Many of our student organizations, including our engineering student chapters, participate in national competitions, invite professional speakers to campus, tour local companies, and organize student social activities. We encourage you to consider joining one of these organizations as a way to enhance your education and gain valuable experience.
Throughout the semester, we will be hosting a variety of events and activities for engineering students, including career fairs, workshops, TCM Day and E-Week. These events provide a great opportunity to learn more about the field of engineering, connect with industry professionals, and have some fun with your fellow students. We encourage you to get involved and make the most of these opportunities.
As I reflect on my first five months as Dean of the College of Engineering, I am filled with a sense of pride and accomplishment. I am proud of the hard work and dedication of our students, faculty, and staff. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve this vibrant and dynamic community, with a strong tradition of excellence in engineering education and research. I am confident that this will be a productive and successful semester for all of you. Let's work together to make the most of it.
Welcome back, and I look forward to seeing what we will achieve together.
Cheers,
Kenith Meissner
