Internships & Co-operative Education
The UTEP College of Engineering believes that a significant portion of educational opportunities afforded to you can be found in experiences that occur beyond the four wall of a classroom, and to achieve this we aim to engage you in co-operative education and internships. We understand the challenges of obtaining these experiences but we are strategically partnered with the University Career Center to build your resume, develop your professional skill set and meet the employers seeking to hire you.
Here are recommendations to guide you towards landing that co-op or internship.
1 - Update Your Resume
Remember that your resume is what will speak for you when you are not around so make sure it is always updated and upload it to Job Mine. If you don't have a resume or want feedback on your current resume, visit the University Career Center and their resources for assistance.
2 - Do Your Homework
Realize that there are many things you might not be aware of when seeking a job. This will make "doing your homework" a bit complicated so make sure to know who can help you. In general, the homework topics we think you should focus on are covered by workshops offered by the University Career Center and by University Career Center's FAQ page. Here are some fun videos that may also help:
3 - Meet Your Future Employer
With your resume and homework done, now dress for success and get yourself to a job fair. The two major fairs for engineering majors that bookend the hiring season:
- Career Expo (in September)
- Engineering & Science Expo (in February)
- ESLC Engineering Mixer with Local/Regional/National Employers
- TSPE Networking Mixer with Local Employers
