Selective Service
Regulations in the state of Texas require all male students under the age of 26 to be registered with Selective Service or exempt, to be eligible to receive any state or institutional financial aid. Selective Service is a federal agency that registers men between the ages of 18 and 25, that may be called upon to support personnel needs in a national emergency.
If you are male under the age of 26, you must confirm your registration status before you can receive any state or institutional financial aid, including grants, scholarships, exemptions, tuition waivers, etc. To confirm your status, answer the questions in the student portal. Once you have confirmed that you are registered or exempt, you do not need to take this step again if your status will not change, but we may need additional documentation if you provide conflicting information.
You may be exempt if you are:
- Female, or
- Age 26 or older, or
- Younger than 18 (only until you turn 18), or
- A lawfully-present international student on a student visa.
If you're not exempt, you will need to register at sss.gov.
