How Can We Help?
Need help with permits, citations, visitor parking, or the shuttle? We've organized our most common questions below. Still stuck? Email us, check out our Forms & Guides, or review the full Rules and Regulations.
π ΏοΈ Permits
- Do I need a permit? Yes. All vehicles on campus must have a valid permit or pay for hourly parking. Enforcement is 24/7.
- When can I buy my permit? Permit sale dates are posted online and emailed out. Fall permits usually go on sale in August. Once permits go one sale for the new academic year, they are sold year-round, and the allocated inventory is constantly changing, contingent on several factors, such as, parking facility utilization, permit returns, and construction.
- What if I forgot my permit? Visit the East or West entrance gates for a one-day pass or email parking@utep.edu.
- Can I register more than one vehicle? Yes, but only one vehicle may be on campus at a time under the same permit.
π Permit Returns
- Can I return my permit? Yes! Permits can be returned if you no longer need them. Students may be eligible for a prorated refund based on the quarter, and employees on payroll deduction may stop future deductions by returning their permit.
- How do I request a permit return? Fill out the Permit Return Request form online.
- What if I lost my permit? Report it immediately. Replacement fees may apply. If it was stolen, provide a police report for the fee to be waived.
π Student Permits
- Can employees buy student permits? No. Employees must purchase employee permits.
- I live on campus β what permit do I need? A Purple (Housing) permit. Itβs valid only for your assigned housing lot.
- Can I park anywhere with a student permit? No. Each permit is only valid in specific zones. Check your purchase confirmation or permit map.

- Does the guide include garage, remote, and housing info? Yes! It breaks down all permit zones and who qualifies for each one, including parking times and cross-parking rules.
- Is there a direct link to buy a permit? Yes. The guide includes a direct link to the UTEP Parking Portal.
β οΈ Citations
- How do I pay a citation? Students and current employees with UTEP credentials must pay through Pete's Payments. For information on how to pay for a citation as a visitor, visit our guides.
- Can I appeal a citation? Current students, faculty, and staff can appeal eligible citations through their parking accounts at parking.utep.edu. Your appeal will be reviewed and you will get a final decision in 12β14 business days. Citations are only eligible for appeal within 18 calendar days of the date of issuance. Not all violations are eligible for appeal, including ILLEGAL ENTRY/EXIT OF FACILITY and EXPIRED METER.
- What are invalid reasons for appeal? The following reasons are examples of potentially invalid appeals. (These are not all inclusive.)
- Parked for only a few minutes
- Not agreeing with the rules/regulations
- Inclement weather
- Late for class/meeting
- Lot full
- Only drives occasionally and does not want to purchase a permit
- A friend/coworker told me it was okay to park here
- Other vehicles were also parked improperly/illegally
- No one told me my permit expired
- No one told me where or how to park on campus
βΏ ADA / DV Parking
- Do I still need a UTEP permit with my ADA placard? Yes. You must have both a valid UTEP permit and your state-issued ADA placard or plates.
- Can I park anywhere with ADA credentials? A valid UTEP permit allows you to park in the designated lot, and your ADA credentials allow you to park in any ADA space within that lot. Fire lanes, reserved spots, and loading zones are still restricted.
- What are the requirements for DV parking? DV permit holders must display both a state-issued plate (with the ISA symbol or a matching placard) and a complimentary UTEP parking permit. The plate or placard must be registered to the UTEP-affiliated driver or occupant.
- What if my DV plate doesnβt have the ISA symbol? You may still receive a complimentary permit, but only for specific areas (such as Perimeter, Remote, or Garage zones). You cannot park in ADA spaces without the ISA symbol or a placard.
π₯ Visitors
- How do visitors park on campus? They can use pay-by-phone lots or request a guest permit through a department host.
- Can UTEP students or employees use guest permits? No. Guest permits are only for official visitors who are not affiliated with UTEP.
π Shuttles & Mobility
- Is the Miner Metro free? Yes! Shuttle service is free to all UTEP students, employees, and visitors.
