“The UTEP Hunt College of Business had a profound impact on my life, and I am the person I am today thanks to the experiences and opportunities it facilitated,” says Alejandro Muñoz Mendieta, VP of the Hunt Business Alumni Network and newly appointed Associate Professor of Practice in the Marketing, Management, and Supply Chain (MMSC) department.
“I’m excited to join other alumni to strengthen that bond and build a community that allows us to collaborate and further our professional and personal projects.”

How has experience in U.S.-Mexico trade shaped his leadership style?
“My bicultural professional experience and background have been instrumental in my leadership style and decision-making. I now place more weight on developing and investing in corporate cultures that are diverse and open to healthy debate, as they result in better ideation and execution.”
Building a network with impact:
What role does the alumni network play in shaping leaders?
“Our student base at UTEP is unique in its large bicultural heritage and the fact that most have at least one job in addition to their studies. This makes for very resilient and innovative people. Through our alumni network, we want to offer spaces for us to connect and further our capacities so that our college can be recognized on a global scale.”
Supporting future innovators:
Muñoz Mendieta brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role in the MMSC department, where he focuses on entrepreneurship.
With experience in finance, fundraising, and operations, he is passionate about equipping early-stage founders with the tools to build and scale their ventures.
“Being someone that originated from this region and has come back after many years, I bring a fresh perspective to problem-solving and the creative use of resources that might not currently be available in our region.”
