Sweet Gains for WISE
The Big Picture
Laughter echoed through the WestStar Collaborative Atrium on Oct. 8 as students lined up to pie their professors during the annual fundraiser hosted by WISE: Women in Supply Chain Excellence. The whipped-cream spectacle raised funds to help women pursuing careers in operations and supply chain management.
Why It Matters
Beyond the laughter, the event underscored WISE’s mission to create pathways for women in a field where representation still lags. Donations from the event support scholarships, mentorships, and professional development programs that help students turn classroom lessons into leadership.
What Happened
Faculty and staff volunteered for the splatter, included:
Andrew Fultz, Ph.D
Claudia Gomez, Ph.D.
David Sterling
Delfina Glenn
Michael Garcia
Hettie Houghton
Fernando Jimenez, Ph.D.
Rolando Nuñez, Ed.D
John Hadjimarcou, Ph.D.
Each “splat” drew cheers as students swapped coins for whipped cream and bragging rights — a small price for a good cause. WISE raised an estimated $500 during the event.
From Hunt Leadership
“Events like Pie a Professor bring people together,” said David Sterling, Student Engagement Manager. “It reminds us that learning, leadership, and community can all be part of the same experience.”
