UTEP College of Education Qualifying Exam
All candidates for teacher certification must pass qualifying tests established by the College of Education and the Alternative Teacher Certification Program (ATCP). Qualifying exams are intended to ensure that candidates have the necessary skills and content knowledge to perform adequately on the state certification exams. All content area qualifying exams and the Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) qualifying test must be taken and passed prior to graduation (for undergraduate students) and clearance to participate in the State of Texas Educator Certification exams.
Who is required to take this test?
All students seeking a major or minor in Teacher Education are required to take the qualifying tests. It is also highly recommended that ATCP students take these tests.
Payment and Registration

Pay the UTEP Test Administration Fee ($15) and Register – Click here to pay and register with a credit card.
THE TEST FEE IS NON-REFUNDABLE AND NON-TRANSFERABLE. Note: A non-refundable convenience fee of $3.50 will be applied for online payments.
Only one College of Education subject test can be taken per test session.Important: Please make sure that you check with the College of Education before taking this test, there are no refunds.
To avoid the convenience fee, you may register in-person at the Testing Office. Payment
may be made in the Testing Office using exact cash ONLY.
Registration for 138, 235 and 236
You must obtain approval to test from the College of Science.

Please note that final permission will be provided by Kristine M. Garza, Ph.D. (College of Science Associate Dean for Academic Engagement) and students can only register to take the exam if they have a signed form from her.
You will need to bring a signed approval form and proof of payment to the Student Assessment & Testing Office to register in-person.
The College of Science has updated the catalog and students taking the COE 138, 235 and 236 will be impacted. For more information please visit: Educator Preparation Program (Secondary Teacher Preparation Program)
Students in the Alternative Certification Program who are taking 138, 235 and 236- need to bring their ATCP acceptance letter to the testing cnter and register in-person. You do not need to request permission from the College of Science.
Registration for 231, 232, and 233
The College of Liberal Arts is requiring students who are taking the COE 231, 232, and 233 to obtain approval.

You will need to obtain approval before registering for a test session. You may register with the Student Assessment & Testing Office via phone or in-person after obtaining approval and payment to register.
Registration for 211 and 291
Payment and registration for COE exams 211 and 291 are handled by the Program Coordinator at the College of Education.

Day of the Test
- LOCATION:
- The Student Testing Office is located in the Academic Advising Center Building, Room 127.
- You MUST arrive 15 minutes prior to the published test time for check-in. If you arrive more than 5 minutes late, you will NOT be admitted.

- You will be required to present an official UNEXPIRED identification card with a current photo.
- Acceptable forms of identification include:
- U.S. Driver’s License
- UTEP Identification Card
- U.S. Department of Public Safety Identification Card
- U.S. Military Identification Card
- U.S. Alien Registration Card
PLEASE NOTE: Cancellation, late arrival, or absence will terminate the test session and associated test fees will be forfeited.

Scores
You will be able to see your final score after you complete your test. You will be able to email the results to an email address of your choice.

Test Length
You will have 5 hours to complete the test.
Workshops
There is a workshop to help students prepare for the Pedagogy and Professional Responsibility exam.
It is free of cost to UTEP College of Education alumni and UTEP Educator Preparation Program (EPP) students.
