TEAS
The TEAS exam is used to evaluate entry level skills and abilities of nursing program applicants.
Payment and Registration
TEAS is offered both in person and online. Please select wisely your TEAS option to ensure that you have a successfull test session. You will not be able to switch between on-campus to virtual after you have already registered.
Determine if you need to take the test
All students who are applying to the College of Nursing must take the TEAS. If you have any questions, contact the College of Nursing at (915) 747-8337.Payment and registration is done through the ATI Testing website.
To register for a test session:
- Go to www.atitesting.com/teas-prep
- NOTE: Make sure to review the ATI TEAS Registration FAQs on this page if you need more information on the exam)
- Scroll to the REGISTER FOR THE TEAS section of the page and click on the red "Start Registration" button
- If you have an existing ATI account, select "Sign In". If you do not have an account, create one by selecting "Create an Account"
- NOTE: It is important to remember your ATI login information. YOU WILL NEED THIS ON EXAM DAY. If you do not have your ATI login information, you will not be able to test.
- Follow the prompts to complete your registration

Make sure you start your DRY RUN process at 8:00am no later than 8:15am to ensure that you can fix any technological issues that may arise before 9:00 a.m.
During the test you will not be able to speak or chat with the Proctor. If you need help with the testing system, there are Quiz Tools available to you on the screen. Questions about the actual test can only be asked outside of the testing period. You can send an email to the proctor using this email address uteptesting@utep.edu either before the test begins or after. -
Begin by opening Google Chrome. Log into your ATI student account: My ATI tab > Test tab. Click the Add Product button and enter the assessment ID that was provided below. If you enter the Practice ID, you will then click Begin.

When you enter the TEAS assessment ID you will follow the attached instructions for paying for the TEAS assessment. After you have been approved you will then click Begin.

You will do the practice test first which has three questions. This will ensure you have a smooth testing experience. As soon as you finish the practice test, you can start the TEAS assessment.
You will be allowed to use one scratch sheet of paper only. You will be required to destroy the paper upon completion of the exam.
- IDENTIFICATION:
- You will still be required to present a valid, government-issued ONLY, UNEXPIRED identification card with a current photo.
- Acceptable forms of identification include:
- U.S. Driver’s License
- Passport
- U.S. Department of Public Safety Identification Card
- U.S. Military Identification Card
- U.S. Alien Registration Card
- IMPORTANT: You will not be admitted to the test if you do not have any identification or if your identification does not meet the following requirements: government-issued, current photograph, signature, and permanent address.
- UTEP students are not allowed to use the student ID to take this exam. Please check with your institution the appropriate identification to be used.
- You will not be allowed extra time to obtain proper identification.

- You are required to know your ATI Testing login information (username and password). The Student Assessment & Testing staff does not have access to this information.

Test Schedule
To view available test dates, check the ATI website.
Scores
You will be able to view your score immediately after completing the test.
The Student Assessment & Testing Office does not provide printed copies of score reports.
You will be able to view your scores at home under the Results tab on the ATI Testing website.

Test Length
Total test time is approximately 3.5 hours.
The TEAS is an Internet-based, multiple-choice, exam that assesses a student’s abilities in four essential subject areas: reading, math, science, English and language usage.
- Reading (53 questions, 64 minutes) – section includes questions regarding paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension, and inferences/conclusions
- Math (36 items, 54 minutes) – section includes questions regarding whole numbers, metric conversion, fractions, decimals, algebraic equations, percentages, and ratio/proportion.

- Science (53 items, 63 minutes) – section includes questions regarding science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, basic physical principles, and general science
- English and Language Usage (28 items, 28 minutes) – section includes questions regarding Punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, contextual words, and spelling
Retake Policy
TEAS at ATI Exams: Candidates may attempt a TEAS at ATI exam once every 14 days. Please refer to your school’s admissions policies to understand their retake and attempt policies prior to registering for a TEAS exam.
TEAS Online at Institution Exams or at TEAS at Institution Exams: The institution(s) where you plan to apply set their own TEAS Exam admissions policies including number of attempts and length of time between attempts. Please make sure you understand their admissions policies prior to scheduling a TEAS Exam. UTEP STUDENTS: There is no waiting period between exams
