CASS coordinates sign language interpreters for Deaf students. UTEP will cover the cost of the interpreter services for students for all classes and class-related events.
Students requesting interpreter services will meet with a CASS Coordinator to discuss their needs. Students are urged to finalize their course schedules far in advance of the first class day so interpreters can be scheduled according to student preference and interpreter availability.
All non-classroom requests (including meetings with professors or group meetings with other students for projects or assignments) should be made as far in advance as possible, but at least one week in advance. While every effort will be made to secure interpreter services, last-minute requests cannot be guaranteed.
Once students have enrolled in their courses, they must request their accommodations through the AIM portal to ensure an interpreter(s) is scheduled for each course.
Interpreting Services for an event requested by the student: These include non-classroom requests such as meetings with professors, group meetings with other students for projects or assignments etc.
To request interpreting services, please email cass@utep.edu at least 48-72 hours in advance.
Interpreting services for university-sponsored events: such as pinning ceremonies, commencement ceremonies, honors convocations, and similar occasions, must be requested by the sponsoring college or department at least one month in advance. To request interpreting services, please email cass@utep.edu. These types of requests should be requested as far in advance as possible and no less than 1 week before the event.
